Hello,

/var/log/XFree86.0.log indicates that DRI is starting up properly for my Voodoo4, and tdfx and agpgart modules are present, however glxinfo reports software rendering and Direct rendering: no. The glide3 libraries are of course installed. The same hardware setup works with current releases of Mandrake and Redhat. Any ideas why Knoppix can't set it up?

I recall having similar problems with Mandrake and Redhat several releases ago; it seemed like some of the tdfx_drv.so or tdfx_dri.so were being statically linked with the Voodoo3 version of glide instead of the Voodoo5 version. Probably this question would be better addressed to a Debian X group, but I thought maybe someone here had seen it and could propose a quick fix.

BTW, Knoppix is now my favorite distribution. The liveCD boot is really going to get a lot of people trying Linux that otherwise wouldn't have.

Thanks,
Rich
