funny fonts

I had a great hd install but than in playing around and learning I trashed it out! :cry: Now I have re-installed the 9-5-03 back to my hd. and all seems well but the fonts. They are all small and ugly! The fonts in gaim are so tiny that I have to have people blow their text way big to see. I tried modifying the file as to the instructions on the gaim website but that just made gaim not work. I think the default font setup for the whole system may be whacked. Can someone point me to that setup, and provide an example of what it should be from a fresh install?
