Aureal au8830 & alsa

Alsa (http://www.alsa-project.org/) just released a new version with aureal soundcard support. Obviously the knoppix "alsa=au8830" cheatcode won't work with the current knoppix release but I was wondering if anyone can suggest the proper procedure I would use to get the sound working with the least amount of fuss :)
