hi everyone... i am working on my own remaster of knoppix and wish to fit it down to a business card size cd (50 MB). i have tried but to no avail remastering samller distros but due to the leack of support for my network card drivers (bcm4400) I have been highly unsuccessful at this. i was down to my wits end and decided to remaster from the full knoppix which did support my NIC card... problem is there are 50 some odd pages of packages and i only want the bare essentials in my remaster so i can add my own tools (there are less than 10 total things i want in the finished product so you can see why going through 50+ pages of packages and removing them one by one would be extremely time consuming/difficult) so i am putting out an SOS to anyone who will heed my call... i am lookng either for a list of packages that can be removed so as to only leave the bare minimum from the full knoppix... or maybe a command the removes all but essential packages... anything else that can get me to my goal of leaving only the essential packages installed to add minimal programs and complete the remaster!

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED...
THANKS IN ADVANCE...

Mike

There is "Damn Small Linux". Don't know if it suits you, afaik it is Knoppix based. Search the docs on this site :-)

i am sorry i cant solve your problem as oi am new in the knoppix world but you may help me by giving me the document containing the easy steps for remastering procedure. Actually i am doing remastering from a document i got from knoppix site but its so difficult and confusing for a begginer like me

i have worked with damn small linux and it does not support my network card either.i have also tried a remaster off of damn small linux but to no avail...

fianlly though, i found gKNX which has only the essential packages to boot... i created everything i wanted and compressed the filesystem, made the iso and burned it... now i have a new problem, it is going through accessing drivers and while it is:
"
Accessing KNOPPIX CDROM at /dev/scd0.../modules/cloop.o:init_module:
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
Cannot Find KNOPPIX Filesystem, Sorry.
Dropping You To A (Very Limited) Shell.
Press Reset Button To Quit.
"
and then there are six commands that you can use but that is it.
any insight into a solution to this problem (ie: own experiences, other posts, documents from this site, documents from another site, anything else you think might be helpful)

ANY HELP IS TRULY APPRECIATED
THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE...

the cloop.o(in the miniroot) version must match your kernel that boots and there are 2 different format of cloop device, one for 0.x, one for 1.x. They are incompatible. The error you see should come from either of these two issues.
