Where do you plan to upload this release? Will it be available for public download?
Thanks

1º- When do you plan to upgrade this release with nvidia smp driver and hd install????
2º- Do you remenber BeOS? BeOS was a 50 Mb OS, very nice and fast. Is possible a litle linux on 50-100Mb Cd, KDE 3.1, smp and accelerate drivers?

Thank.

I have a laptop hp pavillion ze4125, knoppix is the only distrib that has not had a kernel panic upon install or running off cd. i haven't tried knoppix hd-install yet though and have some trouble getting dhcp to work but i'll figure that out if i've previously done with others such as gentoo and slackware. Mandrake on desktop detects my dhcp and im connected after install, debian and well, knoppix i'm not but i'd really like to get this installed to the hard drive with this competative laptop againsst linux. anyone with suggestions on installing besides the faq plz repspond, this would be nice. thanks!

Claudio-

Are you telling us that if you install to an IDE drive it works ok but install to your SCSI and it won't work? If the disks are in the same machine then the SCSI disk is probably not seen as your first disk. You will need to install a boot manager to the Master Boot Record on the first disk.

This post should really be in the hdd install forum.

I've been playing with a mini LiveCD distribution based on Mandrake that fits into the KDE 3.1--plus-hardware-detection-on-a-minicd need. Yes, not exactly Knoppix, although I must say that Knoppix has helped a great deal in ideas, linuxrc scripts and motivation to get it going. (Hey what can I say, I'm a long-time MDK user, so shoot me :)

It contains quite a bit for a mini-cd: KDE 3.1, Gimp, XMMS, etc. If you need more packages, there are still space left on the CD, just ask somewhere in the forums. You can find the iso at http://minicd.berlios.de.

Ok, that is the end of my shameless plug. It is a toy, definately not Knoppix or even KnoppixKDE in terms of sheer number of packages and functionality available.

KnoppixKDE (with KDE 3.1) is phenomenal - but it has some bugs (and misfeatures).

Tear-off menus appear to be a thing of the past....

KOrganizer appears to have several bugs; most memorable was the inability to delete ToDo items - there are three or four ways to do this, but only one works (delete key, I think it was).

The text-based terminal displays never get rid of the graphical "frame" - cute during bootup, annoying otherwise - and worse yet, no text is visible unless it is displayed in ANSI bold.

It was also quite surprising to find that ruby ( http://www.ruby-lang.org ) was not present, and neither was screen ( http://www.gnu.org/software/screen/ ). This combination (along with the invisible text on the virtual terminals) caused my startup scripts to fail (since they are Ruby-based) without any visible descriptions at all.

Very nice, but not ready for prime time...

PS: http://minicd.berlios.de doesn't seem to be responding... Last time I tried http://www.berlios.de it timed out too.

I know that the KDE 3.1.1 is being worked on and it contains quite a bit of bug-fixes. On the bootsplash issue, I think that you should be able to set the color of the text, I seem to remember something like that in one of the forums...

PPS: Yes, it seems that BerliOs are having some problems at this point. Do a traceroute and see. I would like to test the mini-cd version as well. AFAIK Mandrake backports quite a bit of fixes from the main tree, so KDE might be more usable/stable - but in my case I'm quite happy with KnoppixKDE. Then again, variety is the spice of life :)

It seems to be back up again. So, yes, now you can try it :)
