Knoppix istalled to hd, so debain now, like it lots, much better than RH, but now facing something that I have not yet personally encountered with linux, eg upgrading mobo and cpu from existing Abit + AMD XP to Abit + Intel P4.

In windows this would mean an OS reinstall, is knoppix / debian on HD the same?

if so any tips and tricks and advice about backing up personal data and system settings, installed system state / apps via apt-get etc etc etc much appreciated.

many TIA

cheers

If you have a /home partition keep it. Then after installation just edit fstab so that it mounts on /home. That'll save you some time. Of course you need to create a user of the same name when you install. ;) It's been some time since I've used the Knoppx installer and I forget what accomodations it has for this sort of thing. Of course back up anything that is important. If it's on a seperate partition then just leave it alone while you install. If something happens to it then it will be user error. :)
