i have my MD player and recorder. now under winblows it requires some dumass software. one is there a linux alt. and a way to get around there software bs and just transfer the music over usb like a usb cdrw. the model is mz-ne410 if that helps in any way.

If you have used fdisk in windows, you won't have much trouble using cfdisk in Linux. It's not hard to create partitions. But you do need blank space (unparitioned) on your hdd.

Install the boot-loader lilo when it asks and your system will be set to dual-boot.

The MD player will need its own software/driver to work in linux.

Run the live-cd and use 'qtparted' to partition your drives... then run knoppix-installer.

Not familiar with MD players, though there a lot around me, I've never used any. If you can access it like you do a USB Flash drive (or stick) it should be fairly easy. You may have to edit your fstab though.
