Hello,

After looking at my network problem off an on for a few days, network not working, it resolves to the lack of a proper driver for the RealTEK RTL8101L integrated ethernet and sound chip.

The networking does not install. The various work arounds in the forum have not worked ... so it must be a problem with the 8139too driver not being compatible with the RTL8101L chip. At least this is my best guess.

I was able to find out that there may be a work around using the alsa sound driver but had no luck installing it on knoppix, yet. Since sound is included on the chip it seems the alsa driver enables the chip properly.

The RTL8101L chip with ethernet and sound seems real popular with HP and this means a bunch of users will be cut off from using knoppix.

This could be the source of grief that alot of other knoppix users report with their network.

Any help or pointers would be appreciated. If I can help just ask.
