knoppix and moderating packeges

i start knoppix direcyly from cd i made configuration on my HDD with some network adjustments and some visual adjustments, so my question is in this situation can i install additional packeges because i tried to install my
radeon9200 from *.deb driver packet and i get message
dpkg is marked as read only is this because i start from CD
