My knoppix wont receive the dhcp broadcast, and when I don't use dhcp and manually do ip address, I still cannot get a connection. It's the right nic, does it have to do with that it's onboard? Probably not, but how do I get this thing connected?

What does " ps auxwww | grep pump" "pump --status" "lsmod" and "lspci -v" say ?
(if you are connecting using windoze to get online just pipe the output of
the commands to a file before rebooting)

Here, sorry it's sloppy, but it wouldnt let me to write to my hdd because of permissions. How do I fix that? All I did so far was boot off the cd, didnt set a password or anyting.
I got it to write to floppy.

ps auxwww | grep pump" "pump --status" "lsmod" and "lspci -v" say ?

Right click on the partition you want to use and turn on write permissions

...yes, I think the modules you have loaded should work with
that hardware (can anyone using it successfully comment on that ? )

I assume that things work if you boot into windoze so we can rule out
hardware problems, right ?
What happens if you kill pump and start it again (without unloading
the network driver modules) ?
Have you tried to boot into windos, writing down the Ip address, gateway and dns servers you get assigned and then fired up knoppix
& configured the interface statically with those ? (Only good for
testing until the lease time you got in the windos session runs out,
which should be at least an hour but can be longer, don't leave it like that even if it seems to work)
What does lsmod say after you've configured the interface statically ?

Yeah, I tried auto configuring the ip address, subnet, gateway etc. Still won't connect. I'll try to reset the pump. Thanks, I'll get back.

Hi,

The VIA chipset might be causing the troubles.

Search the foum on posts about 'VIA' and why not 'VIA ethernet '.
In one post someone mentioned the cheat code pci=biosirq.

One solution would be to simply buy a ethernet PCI card, they're not that expensive.

Could you tell if it works out, 'cause I'm gonna buy a new mobo and I'd like to know if there is a solution to the VIA problem.

Okay, I just put a nic in, again works in windows fine. It is model:
REALTEK RTL8139

Still doesn't let DCHP in through Knoppix. >< Any suggestions?
EDIT:
I tried to receive DCHP broadcast from both of the NIC's neither one of them worked.
Also tried typing in IP Info, no luck. !
