no sound

i have a via chipset knoppix picks up the sound card but says it doesn't support it. how can i get it to work with knoppix

By CD boot?
What is the date version or your KNOPPIX CD?

Specify your mother board. Is it an onboard via sound
chip, have you added a second sound card?

Check your BIOS and see what it says about you
sound setting.

What is the exact message and when does it appear?
