hi
My laptop(clevo-kapok) works fine with knoppyx, also battery monitoring is ok but i have not sound.
When i launch sndconfig i receive this message:

PCI sound card was found in your
system. The details are:
Model: Intel Corporation|82440MX
AC97 Audio Controller
The Intel Corporation|82440MX AC97 Audio
Controller is not currently supported.
How can i solve the problem?
thank
Giorgio Lazzari

With Mepis(debian -based distro) the sound is ok (i810_audio driver recognized) but battery level monitor not works :-((

You probably need an ACPI kernel to get the sound working. I'm on my second Clevo laptop, both it and the previous one refused to assign an interrupt line to the sound chip without ACPI support in the kernel.
Should be possible to determine that if you post the output of "lspci -v"
The previous one I had showed the same problem with the battery monitor as you are seeing, worked with APM but not with ACPI. In my case it could have been that the kernel (and KDE) I was using in the previous one was older so I'm not sure if it still is a problem.

Yep, looks like it hasn't been assigned any resources, after switching to an ACPI aware
kernel my corresponding entry looks like this:

00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Sound Controller (rev a0)
Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer: Unknown device 0403
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 173, IRQ 5

If you have installed / are going to install to HD it is no big deal, just recompile the kernel with APM support disabled and ACPI enabled.
If you want the sound to work from the live CD you need to do a remaster (or download someone else's ACPI aware remastered iso, there are several to chose from)

Either install the debian package (can't remember the details, haven't done that myself)
or get a new kernel tarball directly from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/linux-2.4.24.tar.bz2
and unpack it (tar -xjf linux-2.4.24.tar.bz2) in /usr/src, then cd into the new directory (linux-2.4.24) and read the README file. (when you do the "make menuconfig" part make sure APM is not selected and ACPI is, also enable the sub-options below ACPI except the vendor specific stuff)

thank for your suggestion.
I downloaded and installed kernel 2.6.2 recompiled without APM support.
Now sound is ok but klaptop is disappeared from my laptop and it is impossible monitor battery status.
Anyway shutdown of laptop is ok.
If i launch klaptop the errormessage says that there is a partial installation
of ACPI but i selected all the items that you suggested.
thanks

I don't have any experience with 2.6.x kernels but battery monitoring works for me on a 2.4.23 kernel.
