Hello,

i have installed Knoppix 3.3 in "Debian" mode with knoppix-installer.

At the first login KDE try to open the "Welcome ..." file from the CD.

I searched the link and found them at $HOME/.kde/Autostart/ .

I have deleted them, but at the next login all my desktop symbols (for the trash and the partitions ...) lost her symbol. Now i only have the text.

What have happen, and how can i fix it ?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards

Fiffi

PS: Sorry for my bad english!

Hello:

I don't know where is exactly the problem or what had happened. You can try using the KDE control center, or maybe using other desktop.

If you don't have success, you can reinstall knoppix using

# knx-hdinstall

and it does a good debian installation.

Hello dobell,

if i login as root, the desktop symbols are OK.

How can i delete the damaged user, and create a new one ?

Best regards

You should be able to just rip out the whole .kde subdirectory in your home directory.
(or change it's name in case you want to analyze what went wrong later)

Hi:

ok you can delete this broken user entering in the system as root and then running kuser, or a different user management application, then you can create a new user and use it.

I also recomend you to do:

# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade
# apt-get dist-upgrade

In order to correct other problems you can find. (Ok run it in konsole and you can run the just the last one, I think it will dowload about 300MB so be patient and wait for your updated knoppix debian)

It would work fine.

I also think you don't have to delete the default user neccesarily but I have to investigate if changing the initial scripts....

I hope to be helpful
