View Full Version : need help recovering passwords on 2000 pro nt.

my computer club has 5 computers that where donated with win 2000 pro. the bad thing is they didn't give use a password we tried the comain admin passwords but we had no luck and wa woundering if anyone know how to recover the lost passwords.

OK I am assuming that you are aware that this is a Linux forum? Also I assume that you are wondering if you can use Knoppix to do this. On that I have no idea but there are several other Linux solutions for your dilemma:

Since this is a Linux/GNU distro forum, I'd say the best password recovery would be to either do a HDD install of Knoppix, Mepis, or some other distro. That'll solve your problems pretty quickly.

From a Windows standpoint, however, you can search google as suggested above. You may also want to search for a bootable CD called Hiren's Boot CD which contains tons of awesome pc support software, including an NT password recovery program, all in about a 25MB iso file. I actually burn it to a 4 1/2 mini-cd just to be cute doing PC support. Of course, you need to make sure you have the proper licenses for some of the 3rd part proprietary programs that are included... :wink:
