How do you prevent Knoppix from shutting down when logging out when you've installed it on a hard disk, or is this changed when you install it to HD? I myself haven't installed it on a hard drive yet but the normal CD version always shuts down when you log out. Sometimes you just want to reboot or log in as a new user.

you have to boot in run level 2 before the cd starts the kde session how to do this is, when the cd first starts and it says boot you can type in knoppix 2 and then the computer will run as normal...however you have to manually start the kde which on the root login screen type
/etc/init.d/xsession start
from there the kde will start and when you choose logout the computer will not fully shut down...when you are finished type in the command line
shutdown now
that will do the trick for you, let me know if this works out for you

Yeah...it changes when you install to the hd. It will load KDM at startup and let you log in as either user or root. And then when you choose to logout it'll give the option of shutting down, rebooting or logging in as a different user.
