Not sure what's wrong here. CD boots fine on my crappy old laptop with 700MHz PIII, but not on my shiny new AMD Athlon desktop. I get as far as Tux the Penguin appearing in the top left hand corner with a flashing cursor, and then nothing happens.
Any bright ideas?

Try some of the "no" cheat codes (http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/CheatCodes) like noacpi, noapic and maybe just failsafe by itself to boot with minimal hardware detection.

I am having the same problem - the CD boots perfectly on other PCs but not the one I actually want to use.
I get the Penguin screeen and a blinking cursor, then after a few blinks the cursor disappears and nothing else happens. I have tried failsafe, noacpi, noapic, noapm, expert, and even tried disabling APM and ACPI in the bios and it still doesn't help.
My computer has a PCChips M741LMR motherboard with an ATI All-In-Wonder Pro graphics card (the onboard video is disabled). The OS installed is Windows 2000 pro and it runs very stable.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
