I'm very new to this folks. I boot right up to "creating x11 on xxxxx", then the monitor dies on me and the CD and HD thrash around for a while, then everything goes quiet. Any ideas? 500MHz with 256 RAM, NVIDIA TNT2 32 M graphics, onboard sound...
Many thanks

Try setting your bios to "non plug and play OS" (usually somewhere in the PCI section). It won't affect Windows.
Also, at the boot prompt type:
knoppix alsa
to get your sound working.
I use an old NVIDIA TNT2 32 M too, so I don't see that as being an issue.

You may also want to add noddc and xmodule=nv to the end of the knoppix alsa line as well with maybe xvrefesh=60 thrown on for good measure.
