Hi everybody!

I'm trying ti use Knoppix on a really old 486 with 16mb RAM. But I get an "CRC error - System halted".

What is a "CRC error??

Thanks a lot.

Jordi

CRC stands for cyclic redundancy checksum, and the message might come from your memory controller or read errors on the CD itself. Does that CD read/boot correctly on other machines? You can try "knoppix testcd" at the boot prompt and knoppix will check the cd data integrity. Anyway, you realise that 16 Mb would'nt get you very far, don't you. It should work in text mode though ("knoppix 2"). Good luck, and be gentle with the old-timer !-)

Thanks for your answer. I'm just playing with the machine, and as you suggested, I'm sure it must be a read error in the cd unit. The CD is booting perfectly on my pentium III. I'll keep on trying! :D

Thanks again!

Jordi
