View Full Version : Using Knoppix packages for other distributions

Can I use the packages say KDE 3.0 or Open Office in other distibutions say, i have installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 and want to install open office from Knoppix Cd,Can I do it? Please help.

simple answer is no. The Knoppix CD does not have the software packaged up, it is already installed.

Can you download the Debian version of a software package and install it on RedHat? Yes!! You would have to use a program like Alien that converts from *.deb to an *.rpm and then install. Or use k-package with alien installed and it will try and convert the file for you.

If you really want a file for RedHat try rpmfind.net to find the "real' *.rpm
