The replies to my anwser just dont make sense. If your saying you can't load an image at the terminal and you need a GUI Interface then how does the penguin come up while the operating system is loading. I would assume that would be the same as loading an image full screen from a terminal. Is there a way to bypass XWIN and just view a jpeg or gif full screen?

Not too sure about fullscreen, but that penguin on the side of the screen is drawn to the framebuffer. Its like images without X. Check out QT/Embedded.

' apt-cache show fbi '
