Ok heres the deal, I have a IBM Netfinity 3000, not the fastest little guy on the planet, but it a durable running little thing. The IBM has a ServeRaid II card in it with 4 x 9GB scsi drives, in a raid 5 configuration, Setup up three partitions with cfdisk, a 4GB for Root, 500MB Swap, Rest went to data storage for a sambe share on the network, and a small intranet webserver, and a mysql database, for our new inventory management program.

I have installed Knoppix V3.3 02-16-2004 to the HD, once the install is done and reboot, I get a kmod failure, will get to the exact error in a second.

Here is a copy of the install messages that you get from running the install from a shell, while booted to the live cd.

root@ttyp0[knoppix]# knx-hdinstall

ok now once I reboot the error meesage that I get is

kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-8, errno = 2
VFS: Cannot open root device "801" or 08:01
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:01

as far as what I can tell from the rest of the messages up above these errors I see no problems, but also I do not see anywhere that it is loading the megaraid.o file like it does when booting from the cd.

The quirky thing is that if you boot from cd, you can mount the drives and life is good, the cd sees everythign just perfectly, using the megaraid.o for the ServeRaid II card, but for some reason once installed to the HD, either lilo, or something else is not quite right.

Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

Linus is the greatest, Love the Knoppix distro!

I am getting the EXACT same kmod error message, but I am doing an install on my laptop from the gui (kde).

I even made a persistent directory, and downloaded and ran the latest version of the installer (0.3.7 i think). same problem.

the wierd thing is, I have NO SCSI devices on my laptop, as far as I know!!

so, what's going on here?
