image rather than hardware probing and other stuff

I was wondering if any of you knew how to easily have a full screen image instead of the booting texts (probing hardware, and so on), thus enabling me to have a knoppix that will not scare windows addicted away :D

If you also know how to do that with the shutting-down ... I am interested

I don't need a progress bar, just a full screen image
