What is translucency?

Xpiral,

Simple question, simple answer...

It is what, and how much, something can be seen through what is covering it.

In the case of Knoppix - Translucency is used to view what is behind something, through what is on top of it. As in your deskop, translucency is used when you open the KMenu, the KMenu has "some" translucency, and you can see what is behind, or under, the menu, still.

A large amount of translucency is used in a Shell window, click on your Shell prompt, the icon along the bottom that looks like a monitor with a shell in front of it. When the window opens up on your screen, you will see a large amount of your desktop behind the window, or through that window.

Some programs, like Mozilla and Konquerer, have no translucency, thus you can't see what is behind those windows, or through them to what is behind them.

Hope this helps,
Cuddles

I was talking about some kind of program that will permit knoppix to instal new software running from the cd. Or something like that.
