Hi,

I am about to buy a camcorder but I want something that works without any problems with Knoppix 3.3 (of course). I have seen a sony dcr-trv19e
(http://www.unbeatable.com/products/PAL/Sony/Digitals/sonydcrtrv19e.asp)

and it looks fine for me. The question is... which hardware do I need in my laptop? I have heard about kino and coriander but I am not sure I got the point... Can I make films with the camcorder and give them a readeble format for a dvd player? (_not_ avi or DiVx) Does some of you have experience? Do I need an extra-card or device?? What about the port? This camcorder has not usb... what is the protocol?

thanks,

Pau

Pretty much all the DV recorders use firewire. It looks like you don't have firewire on this box. You'll need to get a card for it (pci for a desktop pcmcia for a laptop). I haven't done this before, but I suspect that your best bet is to get on google and start looking for cards that are well supported under linux. That's how I would proceed anyway.
