OK I've got version 3.3 and am booting from the CD-Rom drive. I get a few small error messages that don't hold it up and then I get this one which repeats forever.

INIT: PANIC: segmentation violation at 0x804ec92! sleeping for 30 seconds

Any ideas what the problem is? Could one of the other errors that didn't hang it up be to blame maybe?

I'm getting the same thing. I've tried both these files:
knoppix-std-0.1.iso
knoppix-std-0.1b.iso

which I had downloaded from the site (mirror site) and verified with md5sum.

I'm burning the CDs with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.

I've tried both CDs on a Thinkpad T22 and a home-built Pentium4 box with the same init panic error.

All I can guess is perhaps its my CD Writing software??

Please let me know a resolution ASAP.. Thanks!

I doubt it is your CD Writing software. I created a disc that works fine on one machine but gives the INIT: PANIC: segmentation violation error on another machine.

I now believe it is hardware related.
