I have a laptop that only wants to boot off the floppy and i cant get into the BIOS to change it...

the harddrive in this thing is dead...

is there any way of booting off a floppy and loading the knoppix kernel on the cdrom?

sure. check the documentation on the cd:-) it is all there.
if i rememer correctly you do something like below in windows.

You have to look for boot.img on the CD (under /Knoppix directory), you should have someting called rawrite there aswell.

Insert a formated floppy in a:

click on the Rawrite icon.
Answer boot.img (as the floppy image is called) and A.
Now, you have a Bootfloppy.

hope it helps

EDIT just reboot with both the cd and floppy in the computer, it should start knoppix just fine /EDIT

You can make a bootable floppy by using the images on most distros, the Knoppix CD has instructions.

Another cooler way is to use http://bootcd.narod.ru/index_e.htm it's called Bootable CD Loader, it chains the boot to WHATEVER bootable CDROM is in the drive, Knoppix, Morphix, Windows PE (yuk!) etc. Comes in real handy when the BIOS does not support CDROM boot.
