You can read this:-

http://librenix.com/?inode=21

and test how secure your installation is by going here

http://scan.sygate.com/

and run some tests.

If you are installed to the HD then you can use apt-get to install guarddog (http://www.simonzone.com/software/guarddog/), firestarter (http://firestarter.sourceforge.net/) or bastille-linux (http://www.bastille-linux.org/) for a firewall/router app and if running from the CD and really paranoid Arno's Iptables (http://rocky.molphys.leidenuniv.nl/) should be runable. Another place to check your ports is Gibson Research (http://www.grc.com) and follow the Shield's Up links.

Can we get a "sticky" on this topic???

Hello, SysAdmin here, this topic is not more than a month old... ( I know I replied to a similar post on this same subject, not more than a month ago )

While we are on the subject:

Suggested "sticky" posts:

Root Password (subject)
Firewall and Virus Protection (subject)

Just some suggestions, not that I like to repeat my same posts over and over ( I am sure Stephen is getting tired of replying to the same topics ), but, maybe we can cut down on the repeat topics ???

Just trying to help,
Cuddles
