I made a change in fstab and changed it back (99% sure it's same as before)
and now when I start pc , only / is mounted at boot , so I can't get X running
i have also /usr , /home /MP3 , as seperate partitions.
Usb system also not working anymore.

Here is output of mount: when pc is started

/dev/hda1 on / type reiserfs (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
capifs on /dev/capi type capifs (rw,mode=0666)
automount(pid1698) on /mnt/auto type autofs (rw,fd=5,pgrp=1698,minproto=2,maxproto=4)

and here is content of /etc/fstab :

# /etc/fstab: filesystem table.
#
# filesystem mountpoint type options dump pass
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0
/dev/fd0 /floppy vfat defaults,user,noauto,showexec,umask=022 0 0
/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 defaults,ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/cdburn /cdburn iso9660 defaults,ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/hda1 / reiserfs defaults 0 1
/dev/hda5 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hda6 /home xfs auto,users,exec 0 0
/dev/hda7 /MP3 xfs auto,users,exec 0 0
/dev/hda8 /usr xfs auto,users,exec 0 0

/dev/hdd1 /win98 vfat noauto,users,exec,umask=000,uid=jack,gid=jack 0 0

Can anybody tell me why only / get mounted at boot time, or has any suggestions how to fix this?

What do you get in /var/log/messages ?
What happens if you try to mount them by hand (as root) for instance:

mount /usr

BTW, you seem to be using reiserfs for root and xfs for the others, why ?
(that means you have to have both reiserfs and xfs support in the kernel, which makes it bigger)

I used mandrakelinux in the past and kept the partitions (xfs) from that time,
but since knoppix hd install freesez when trying to install on XFS partition, I changed root partition to reiserfs.

I can manualy mount the other partitions just fine, but as system has already started up, a lot of apps don't run ok now ( capisuite, usb system etc..)

Here's relavant meassages of : /var/log/messages : ( a lot! )

Hmm, one can see the root filesystem being checked but nothing about the others (not sure what should show up though since I don't use xfs on any of my boxes at the moment)...
Have you looked at older parts of /var/log/messages* where things still worked ?

Don't know if this means something but do you always get this ?

Mar 20 13:20:00 jackbox1 kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
Mar 20 13:20:00 jackbox1 kernel:

Mar 20 13:20:00 jackbox1 kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }

Have you always had the camera connected during boot ?

I get a lot more messages and error statements during ( normaly almost none) but they go by so quick I can't realy check them , but i think they are pretty much the same as in /var/log/messages.
What do you mean whit , camera during boot?
I have no camera and it's not connected

which package or script controls the mounting during boot?

Ah, the photosmart 7600 appears to be a printer. I thought it was a camera since it showed up as a usb storage device but it seems to be a printer with a built-in card reader. :-D

which package or script controls the mounting during boot?
I think it is /etc/init.d/mountall.sh

when I do : reiserfsck on /dev/hda1 , I get message , cannot read superblock and suggest I do a reiserfsck --rebuild-sb ,
Is this a smart thing to do or not?

ps Is it possible that when I backup / totaly in my home part. and then format / as XFS again and then copie everything back ?. what should I do with lilo in that case?
