OK, heres the problem. I installed knoppix 3.3 to hard drive the debian way. I installed my Lucent winmodem by recompiling the modules and make them load on startup. I can easily connect to the Net with kppp, but the first time after a reboot, it always times out. I hit connect again, and it always connects fine (I'm using it now).
Heres my message log...

Can anyone tell me why this happens?
Also, I definately put the modem modules in the wrong place for a standard debian distribution. Where should the modules go and how do I activate them on startup? What script do I edit so they automaticly start on boot? I want all users to have modem access and just use kppp or whatever to dialup.

By the way, this whole knoppix thing ROCKS! I use it at work all the time now (the 3.3 CD version), but at home I just overwrote Mandrake 9.2. I think I like debian better. I sure loved the install script!
