how to disable screensaver?

Hi, I have xawtv running and screensaver pops up all the time ruining viewing experience. How to make xawtv screensaver aware? I read that:
"xset s off"
should disable screensaver but it on my Knoppix 3.3 screensaver still runs! Is there another solution?
