I have problems receiving files from Windows XP when connecting to Knoppix. When downloading from Knoppix I have no problems. Weird. Anybody know anything about Windows XP configuration. I also deactivated all firewalls and miscellaneous security while testing.
Another problem is that I can't even see the Knoppix PC on the network. I tried fiddling with the "/etc/samba/smb.conf" file but it didn't help.
My network setup is a switch with 3 computers connected. IP's are given by my ISP via. DHCP.
I'm really missing the "magic" feature of Windows and IPX

[Note to myself]
Try enabling port 67 and 68.

simple and stupid answer untill you get a smart answer

boot the xp box with the knoppix cd and enable the ftp by deleting the links in the /etc folder to hosts.allow and hosts.disallow and restart the /etc/init.d/inetd

once done you xp box is ftp server. now you can transfer files from the xp box to the knoppix box.

hope it helps

If you use the latest knoppix release you'll find in KNOPPIX=>TOOLS an icon to start the samba server and load automatically
