Sigh...... I was thrilled with Knoppix until I discovered that both my CDROM and Writer don't work with Knoppix - "file:/mnt/cdrom(1) does not exist". This happens both when running from live CD (when the CD not being used by Knoppix won't work) or when running from a CD Image on the hard drive - both won't work.
I really wanted to give windows the flick - but unless I can get these CD drives to work I will have to stay with the evil empire

please help!

Knoppix uses an auto mounter to mount cdroms. After you put a cd in you have to give it a minute or two to mount it. As for Burning I think K3b ignores if its mounted or not and will write even if it says the disk doesn't exist.
Also how aare you trying to mount a image?

ok, what does these comands say? they will give us info to work from.
dmesg|grep CD
dmesg|grep hd
dmesg|grep sr
then perhaps the content of
/etc/fstab will help some.
whit these i will try helping and can do a educated guess, withut it would be a tutorial on linux and disks/filesystems/mounting but with no clear target.
EDIT cd and CD are not same, linux makes diference between large and small letters /EDIT
