Hello
I'm a newcomer... it probably shows...
I've read quite a lot of stuff on the site about burning the iso file.
My burner refuses to put it on to a CDR telling me it has to be a CDRW.
OK - I'll go out tomorrow and buy one, but can anyone tell me why an ordinary 700 MB CDR won't work?
Is the problem specific to Nero?

I got the iso file at the third attempt using a simple copy command from the UK mirror. Twice a real download stopped after 98% and I got error messages from all the mirros saying "target file not specified" - without giving me the time to specify one.

I imagine my problems won't stop there... it's good to see I'm not alone!

All the best
Keith

What version of nero are you using, 6.x had no problems for me, but in 5.x you need to enable overburn in the settings menu. As far as writting it to a CDRW, don't unless you have to, I attempted to do the same to save on media, but all of the disks became unrewritable after the burn due to overburning.

You also might want to check the md5 sums for your disks, in windows you need to obtain md5summer (freeware) and the md5 sum from wherever you downloaded it from (in BT it comes with it but is not needed 99/100 times (early version of one client I was using had a flaw in the code) since it verifies using md5sums...

hope this helps.

Thanks for getting back to me.
I have Nero 5.5 and I enabled over burning as you suggested. It still rejects the CDR and requires a CDRW.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know how to check the MD5 sum... can you explain that one for me please.

If I use a rewritable it wouldn't be for rewriting anyway - so if that pleases his lordship Nero - I'll go along with him!

Thanks once again - I look forward to dinding out more about Md5 sums
All the best

As mentioned in another thread (http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9730&highlight=nero+patch), you may need to download a patch from Nero (http://www.nero.com/us/631998579711357.html) to fix an overburning bug in Nero v5.5.

Actually, if you search (http://www.knoppix.net/forum/search.php) this forum for "Nero" and "patch", you'll see a bunch of posts about the issue.

Thanks.
I did look at some of those postings but I didn't pick up the importance of the over burn patch.
I'm downloading it at the moment
I'll keep you posted

A search like you suggested put up loads of interesting stuff. I think that with all that I should get somewhere.
Sorry to have bothered you.

I did try to install the patch for my version of Nero but it gave me an error message "only for Nero 5.5.10.50" - mine is 5.5.10.54 !!

I'm going to try Burnatonce which I just downloaded.
