have knoppix installed. very smooth without a problem except that get no sound. lspci shows vortex2 card and alsa driver is au8830 but volume is turned off and cannot adjust mixer. sndconfig sets up card, alsaconfig also but no sound. editing aumix as per hint on forum yielded crash of kde. any help would be appreciated. tried alsa a la debian web page with no sound. updates to system also failed to get snd. did find that kanotix has snd working from cd! setting up alsa under fedora also works. mandrake 9.2 and 10 have snd working as well. mepis like knoppix in snd setup. winxp also has snd working. but do enjoy debian experience. hope next version has snd working. thanx :?:
