Hi,
Let me start by saying I am a newbie, but I'm learning and I'm very determined. I've been doing my homework but have reached a snag and need some help.
I'm using the Knoppix 3.3 Live CD but I am unable to connect to the internet. I was able to configure the modem using the instructions found at This Site (http://www.santarosa.edu/~eskagerb/unix/KnoppixModem.html). Using /dev/ttyS0 I get a "Modem ready" message when I query the modem, but when I try to connect I get Initializing modem..... and it never gets any further than that. Thinking I may need to do something to get my modem to work, I did some searching.
I've searched since yesterday and learned how to determine what type of modem I have using the FCC Registration Number. I then found the Linux/Modem Compatibility Knowledge Base (http://www.devidal.tv/~chris/winmodems/pci_list.html) and my modem is listed with an LM meaning I have a Winmodem that may work with a vendor-supplied Linux ("Linmodem") driver and there is a Penguin face next to it which I read means I have a Winmodem chipset with "Linmodem" drivers. (My modem is a SMART Modular Technologies, Inc. Model 90109-2 with FCC Registration Number: 2D7USA-35107-M5-E)
Now I'm lost. Where do I get these drivers and once I aquire them, how do I get them to work using a live CD? Do I even need new drivers? I am so lost. :?
If I sound like an idiot, there is no need to point it out. I feel like one too.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
