I finally got KNOPPIX_V3.4-2004-05-04-EN to boot on my old laptop with 2.4 kernel.

It appears that the "dma" cheatcode is now the default.
The CD-ROM kept giving timeouts, so I had to use "nodma" for it to boot
(along with the usual cheatcodes for this laptop).
If this is the new default, the knoppix-cheatcodes.txt should be updated.

I noticed that the F3 option at the boot prompt mentions the "nodma" cheatcode,
while the F2 screen doesn't.

boot: knoppix nodma acpi=off noapic ide2=noprobe vga=789 screen=800x600

Compaq Armada SB
AR SB 5233/32/4.0/DMT
upgraded to 96MB
Logitech TrackMan Wheel on USB

Also, what does the text on the X-Windows background say in english?

Anyway, THANK YOU for all your good work!

thanks for the info. I had the same problem with a 3 year old Dell optiplex with all harddrives on a Promise IDE controller, and nodma solved that problem.

My german is a bit rusty, but:
