There are a couple of ways to do it. First, you can open kcontrol as root. Open a console and:Then select "peripherals" and "display" and you should be able to make changes there.Code:su
kcontrol
The second thing you can do is reboot you computer with the Knoppix CD using the cheatcode: "knoppix screen=640x480" at the boot prompt. After Knoppix finishes booting into the desired resolution, you can transfer that configuration to your hard drive install:Replace "hdaX" above with the number of the partition that you used for installation (like hda5).Code:su
mount /dev/hdaX /mnt/hdaX
cd /mnt/hdaX/etc/X11
mv XF86Config-4 XF86Config-4.old
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /mnt/hdaX/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
Finally, Morphix has a simple GUI X-configuration tool that has been ported to Debian from RedHat. You can download it here: http://www.morphix.org/debian/binaries/ It is called "xconf". Download the latest version as a *.deb file, then install it and use it:It will open a window and you can make changes to screen resolution.Code:su
dpkg -i xconf*.deb
xconf
