How to use ALi Corporation SmartLink SmartPCI563 56K Modem

Please help me on this:

KInfoCenter has duly recognised the modem in my PC with Knoppix 3.9 Live CD. I have tried my best to connect through KPPP, but with no success.

I have had good success when using KANOTIX Live CD. I could make the modem work by giving commands such as (modprobe slamr), (slmodemd &) in terminal and connect through KPPP.

I would like to work with Knoppix 3.9 Live CD. Please give solution to this.
