colors during boot sequence

I was wondering about how to get those pretty colors back into my boot sequence, they appear when you boot Knoppix with the cd, but with it being installed on my hdd now, they don't appear. I was hoping that the hdd install would replicate the cd to my hdd. Hopefully this will be a painless process! :roll:

I'm also curious about something. When I go "df" at my console, it shows me /dev/root.old as 2mb and mounted to /initrd. I'm not used to seeing this on my previous deb installs. Could anyone explain this to me, and maybe a way to fix it to look like deb?
