Keyboard unresponsive - Knoppix 3.9

Hey

I'm new to linux and i've been trying out LiveCDs. last night i downloaded Knoppix on my crappy net connection and i really want to get it working because otherwise it will have been a massive waste.

it boots from disk correctly and i can use my keyboard at the first boot screen but after the kernel loads and it detects all my devices, my keyboard dies and is unresponsive.

i'm using a ps/2 keyboard that works perfectly with DSL and i'm using a usb mouse.
