I tried to download Firefox (browser) with Konqueror and it was saved into my home folder (or it is called directory).
clicking on the downloaded file, it asked me if i want to open it with Kwrite.
How can i install Firefox ?

In a nutshell:
dselect update
apt-get install firefox -s (remove -s for simulation if it looks ok)
Shouldn't that be apt-get -s install firefox ?Quote:

The other approach which in my opinion is very simple is that dont go thru the pain of installing it.
Just download the tarred file from say for example
http://mozilla.cs.utah.edu/pub/mozil...tk2+xft.tar.gz
Untar it in your home directory and you can use firefox without installing it.

I always put the -s at the end. That way if it looks ok I just hit up-arrow and BackSpc*2 to remove it and install the package.Quote:

Running usb boot drive installed from the knoppix 6.7.1 DVD
from a root terminal window:
dselect update and sudo dselect update
gives co9mmand not found
sudo apt-get install firefox
gives
Package firefox is not available, but is referred to by another package
