Sanctuary
Hi there,
I was looking at a thread about using company laptops for personal use and a suggestion was to run Knoppix on CD and an external drive for saving/storing data.
This looks like a perfect solution to me having to buy another laptop.
Except our IT have installed Sanctuary encryption and lock down the USB port write access.
Will Knoppix work under these circumstances? Or am I still going to be unable to write to an external HD?
Cheers TCDown

If they have not prevented you from booting the CD/DVD (by adjusting the boot order in the BIOS), then nothing installed in the hard drive OS will matter to Knoppix. Knoppix will have access to any standard USB port.
That is not to say that you should do this. You are using someone else's computer, and bypassing things that they have set up is a touchy subject. While it may make a lot of sense to not lug around a second personal laptop so you can have some private computing time with your choice of applications while traveling for the company, it certainly would not be all right to copy private company data to the USB with Knoppix (likely the reason they have a write lock-out in place). You know what Spiderman's uncle would say in a case like this.

Ah I see where your coming from.
It's more a case of full private browsing and stuff rather than wanting to be abe to copy stuff to the USB.
I hadn't even considered that as an option really and can see why it's practice would be frowned upon. If I have broken any site rules by mentioning it I apologise.
