You can add the google repository to you sources. In Synaptic under Settings > Repositories
URl = http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/
Distribution = stable
Sections = main non-free
Then maintain...
P.S. There remains a possibility of ownership issues.
+1 on using gparted.
One thing occurs to me, these are notebook drives? Maybe insure the USB drives have independent power supplies. Or at least use the USB cables with 3 connectors, the second...
BTW, for anyone who wants to experiment with adding a wide variety of .deb repositories (that is, for anyone who makes assiduous backups):

Ahh, I see this is true.
I don't know much about Synaptic. Mostly use aptitude. But I have been using Synaptic more because Knoppix features it.
That file would explain why Synaptic has...
As Homer Simpson would say, DOH!
I forgot to change /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00knoppix from
APT::Default-Release "stable";to "testing" .
So, during upgrades, dependency resolutions of...
For mplayer, which ships with Knoppix, Christian Marillat has a w32codecs.deb on his multimedia repositories. Instructions for adding the repository and keyring here: http://debian-multimedia.org/

The nice thing about the thumb drive install: it is already compressed for easy backup to hard disk before booting for an upgrade session.
However, my hard drive install is what I am thinking of...
Hi,
Does anything particular happen in the Knoppix release cycle when Debian squeeze goes to stable (hopefully this year ;)) or is the Debian testing/stable cycle unrelated?
Just curious.
...
I don't have specific suggestions.
However my hard drive install displays no dependency problems with installing kaffeine (although I am not going to). My live CD and thumb drive versions...
I had a similar problem in Debian with WEP and wicd. network-manager may differ. The work around I made was to enter the HEX key and the essid with iwconfig.
As root,
iwconfig eth0 key...
The conky clock script needed to be offset from system time rather than GMT offset it used on the computer it came from. That means my system time is set at UTC (GMT) at boot and LXDE panel clock is...
So here is 1.) turn off network-manager 2.) check wireless with iwconfig and lan with ifconfig 3.) ping my router 4.) turn on network-manager 5.) check wireless with iwconfig. Interface remains eht0...
I noticed after posting: when booted into openbox, my conky script reports UTC even as the lxd taskbar clock reports PDT.
I am guilty of ignoring this problem. I think it just didn't take precedence over getting Knoppix up working the way I wanted. Now it is no longer an issue. Fixed somewhere in the upgrades I guess.
+5
I noticed that nm-applet claimed it was connected wirelessly through eth0. Curious, I stopped it and ran ifconfig. ifconfig called the lan eth0.
That is wrong. Possibly a deeper problem...
@ Harry Kuhman, Thanks for that unfortunate information about the sad depths of spamming.
Re: "Bucky" Fuller, haven't heard his name mentioned since the previous millennium! Nice to think of him...
I don't think my problem mounting ntfs partitions is with pcmanfm. When I created a persistent image, Knoppix considerately included all the ntfs partitions on my /etc/fstab . However, I still must...
Maybe here: http://www.shapeshifter.se/code/vlc-unrar/
I couldn't find this VLC plugin in the Debian repos. VLC works well as a movie viewer in the first place.
Best of luck.
I don't pretend to knowledge of the spammer world but I would think it much like the pyramid sales world.
The actual spammers themselves are often the most duped of all, desperate to recover...
FWIW, both unrar and 7zip or in Debian's stable, testing and unstable repos.
Well OK. Burning issues are always an issue.
9/10 of mine don't get resolved immediately though. 1/3 the time I bang my head against the wall, finally give up after days, then have an "oh yeah"...
I HATE spam.
I have a spam filter on my ISP's mail server and spam filters on my computers and I still have to sort through it sometimes.
I have never seen a forum without spam. The form where...
Not so sure.
I am installed to a thumb drive and I mount the HD partitions, ntfs & ext3. When I posted above, the drive was plugged into a secondary computer. The primary computer that the thumb...
