Thanks again. Yeah someone told me just to buy a serial modem with an USB adapter. However, they are old and hard to find these days. What is nice about USB modems is that they supply power through...
It seems to work. See my Terminal's copy and paste at http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=YjLE4Sge ... Unfortunately, 14.4k data is for free and I have to pay for it for full package. Is this even legal...
Thanks! That worked. [sighs] This seems impossible. Here's a copy and paste of what I did in Terminal: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=876eEaki Maybe I should give up on this super old USB modem I...
I went to http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/downloads-installer.php to try it:
$ wget http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/dgc/archive/cnxtinstall.run
$ sh ./cnxtinstall.run
Verifying archive...
I also noticed if I boot KNOPPIX and Ubuntu v12.04.1 i386 live CDs with the modem connected, then their dmesgs doesn't show the modem at all. Unplugging and replugging will make dmesg show the modem...
For now, I just want to see if KNOPPIX can communicate to this modem with its AT commands, but it doesn't seem to find the modem at all even though dmesg show detections:
...
Hello.
I got a booted KNOPPIX v7.0.4 Live CD to see an old Creative Modem Blaster V.92 USB (DE5671 Model) dial-up modem when I plugged it in during a session according to dmesg. I don't see to see...
Yeah, I will have to get one of bigger sizes. Of couse assuming the PC can boot from USB devices. I know Dell Dimension 8250 PCs can't. Blah!
But I will have to buy one of those memory card slots. Do they even work fully with very old computers?
Thanks. Wow, 8 GB. The biggest size I have is 1 GB. Heh. Another reason for CD version. I will just wait. ;)
Yeah, I know but it would easier and faster to skip that disc/ISO part. :)
Interesting. I guess I will have to do an extra task: Download ISO, burn to a DVD, boot it, make a USB flash media. Too bad I can't download and run program to make the bootable USB media.
True. According to http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/knoppix702-en.html , I still need to do it from a running KNOPPIX system like a live disc:
"In order to create a bootable USB-medium (memory...
Ah thanks. The reason is that because not all very old computers can read DVDs. I also don't need all the extra programs (e.g., OpenOffice), etc. for urgent utilities for problematic computers.
Hi!
I see v7.0.1 and v7.0.2 DVDs are released, but where are the ones for CDs? Or did I miss them?
Thank you in advance. :)
Thanks. Does KNOPPIX use all that? :)
Hi!
Where can I get a copy of the audio clips that say "Initiating Startup Sequence" and "Initiating Shutdown Sequence" in KNOPPIX v6.4.3's liveCD's X?
Thank you in advance. :)
Ah thanks. I was looking at KNOPPIX's official web site. I don't want to redownload again since I have a slow Internet connection.
Hmm, I only saw two CD lSOs for v6.2.1 on the download web pages. Where was the DVD ISO and others?
Oops, I didn't know there were two versions of v6.2.1 live CD. :(
I tried your suggestion and it seems to work, but I don't get that text menu anymore. It takes me to X. Is that normal? How does...
Hi!
I was using KNOPPIX v6.2.1 live CD, but it had the annoying talkings/voices/speeches. How do I disable it since they make things slower on slow PCs? :(
Thank you in advance. :)
Hello! http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/3128/screenshot1m.png for a screen capture when I was trying to start a new image to install a new Windows XP Pro., but I couldn't even boot it up. I also...
Ah, thanks. I needed universe. I don't remember if Ubuntu liveCD was 64-bit or not. It was v9.10 stable for sure. So, is this 64-bit requirement for 64-bit hardware only or does kernel have to be...
No one knows? I tried Ubuntu liveCD, but can't find a mcelog package to install it. :(
