Yes. I first tried these options on another computer in a virtual machine to see how they work. They work as advertised on a virtual hard drive. In contrast, on my target machine, with only an...
But I require persistence as well, have only an external USB hard drive to work with, and no USB boot.
If your BIOS can boot with the USB drive, why not use "Flash disk Install to HD" or "HD Install"?
That works fine when it works, but more often than not, I get messages saying that the boot...
Tried again. The USBHDD is installed as sda. There is nothing obvious to the untutored eye in the dmesg methods that describe detecting and installing sda. There seem to be no messaged from...
I've already checked this, but I'll try again after the machine finishes a 24-hour memory check. What log files should I look at then? The machine is old and may have intractable hardware...
knoppix tohd=/dev/sda1 boot option does not seem to work when /dev/sda1 is an external USB hard drive. It this the expected behavior?
And still no gfortran. If the intent is to use apt-get, that assumes an internet connection, enough memory, and a bit of time. It was so nice in 5.3.1 to have everything one needs, installed and...
Thanks for providing this tool. To save having to read all 62 pages of this thread, can you cite instructions for how to install or use the contents of the zipfile? Also, I would be grateful for a...
I use 5.3.1 with home= and bootfrom= cheatcodes. The comments in the forum leave me uncertain whether 6.* has functional equivalents. But until gfortran is added, I won't bother to experiment.
I agree 100%.
For me fortran is a necessity. Since 6.2 and 6.3 contain libgfortran (for scilab?) I assume that the lack of gfortran is simply an oversight. The version of gfortran in 5.3.1 is...
Seeing that maxima is still present, and scilab has been added, the scientific user is still supported. I suppose the missing gfortran is an oversight, or has not yet bubbled to the top of the...
It would be nice to see a package list for the 6.3 DVD. I'm particularly interested in whether gfortran has been added, since it was missing from 6.2.
