How to get devfs working?

Has anyone build a kernel with devfs enabled and got it working? I've tried this and get a fsck.reisers failure during boot. (Obviously, I'm using a reisers fs on my install.) I've also compiled reiserfs into the kernel to avoid using an initrd.

I tried devfs but there is some incompatibilty between KNOPPIX(I mean the CD version) and devfs.
