    Knoppix as a Diagnostic CD

    I was just wondering if there is a version/derivative of Knoppix which works like a diagnostic CD:

    i- provides system information (processor, RAM, devices, etc.
    [after all most of this information is displayed at boot time. how to access this once the system is booted?]

    ii- runs tests like memtest, cpubenchmarks, video tests on demand
    [one of the cheat codes in the latest version (3.4) has memtest]

    Is there such a beast out there?

    Hi Mumtaz,
    I am not a specalst in getting all the computer
    system data, but KNOPPIX can give you a lot
    information.

    K --> System --> Info Center

    K --> System --> KDE System Guard

    I am useing kantotix at the moment and there is a fun
    add on utility xmbmon and mbmon to watch
    your fan speed, mother board and chip
    temperatures and voltages.

    You can get mprime235.tar.gz to run a
    stability test from http://www.mersenne.org

    I do not know of a special project to gather all
    this data automatically, but you could work
    on it.

    Best Wishes

    in the console you find the powertools.
    among these dmesg>dmesg.txt makes the text you see at boot into a text document in your home directory.

    then you have lspci and lsmod, Ls means list--> lsmod=list modules, thereby displaying pci-cards and loaded modules.
    to make things interesting there is a bunch of cat /proc/* among the usefull are replacing * with cpuinfo and interrupts.

    I included some apps like prime95, seti@home, folding@home, memtest, and cpuburn in my remaster, Overclockix. These are mainly for stress testing and benchmarking.

    There's also some system monitoring utilities done through a program called karamba.
