gnome 2.6

alright so i finally got my knoppix hdd install to work with knoppix 3.4 c't and i want to update gnome 2.4 to 2.6 im kinda new but i can figure it out if someone would just point me in the right direction thanks in advance

ok i assume i need to use apt-get but when i try to do an update all of the connections fail..i checked it and the ftp locations the sources.list refrers to is not up
someone please help me out here..its driving me crazy
