Type cat /proc/pci and see if you can find your soundcard. I also experience that sound via xmms is not that perfect. Meaby trying a different output plugin can improve sound (ctrl + v).
Ok, i know there have been posts about the AC97 sound card but mine is more of a quality issue.
I used windows to listen to a song that has abit of bass but had the base turned down and it sounded fine. but when i go into linux and run the same file in xmms the speakers sound like they are busted or something. they have a scratchy/muffled sound when the bass line comes in. i figured my sound card wasn't configured correctly so i went into /usr/sbin/ and ran soundcardconfig and sure enough it said it doesn't support ac97 sound card. So i have a default configuration? because i can here sounds just fine but i guess they sounds are on the lowest possible quality for my sound card or something? can some one tell me how to make knoppix recognize my AC97 sound card?
