Please add a line to suggest using the knoppix kernel configuration as the base for configuring the new kernel. Otherwise one has to have indepth knowledge of all the options to select.
ie
cp /boot/config-? /usr/src/linux.config
Here ya go.

It's not a howto for building a Knoppix kernel. Several of those already exist.Originally Posted by kelmo
High,
I tried to build a new kernel on my knoppix linux system 2.4.22xfs following the instructions in /usr/share/doc/kernel-source.2.4.24/debian.README.gz. Apparently it worked well! The installation of the resulting deb-package worked without error messages. However, when i rebooted the system, still the old kernel was activ.
Appaerently, i missed an important step which differs between pur debian and koppix. Searches in the internet did not yet yield the necessary information. Any help is highly appreciated.
all the best, Eberhard
